Getting Started
Now that you are familiar with a few drop shipping terms and are aware of the awesome benefits of owning your own online business let’s examine a few basic necessities you must have. First you need to understand that if you are a courteous, hard-working individual then you already possess what it takes to make a very nice living online. Beyond that you need to know how and have to have a few basic items:
1. Your online business can be run from a desktop or a
laptop, or both. Most people choose a laptop when starting out
because it offers flexibility to work where they choose. Many
people travel and even run their online businesses from hotel
rooms. Any newer model computer will be sufficient and powerful
enough to meet the everyday needs of your new company.

2. The next necessity is a reliable
internet connection. This can be accomplished in a variety of
different ways. If you have an office and will be consistently
running you business from there your local DSL or Cable provider
is the best choice. If you plan on being mobile then Verizon
offers high speed internet cards. The speed is comparable to DSL
and runs about $79 per month. If you are located in a rural area
then satellite internet may be your only option. So if you will
have a stationary office then go with DSL, Cable or Satellite.
If you will have a mobile office then choose Verizon, Sprint or
AT&T mobile broadband solutions.
Note: Many of our
clients choose Verizon’s service because it offers mobility.
3. It is important to have a reliable phone service. You
want to sign up for a business plan that way your business name
will be displayed on caller ID when making outbound calls. You
have a variety of options for phone service. You can choose your
local land line service, cell phone, or virtual system. Both the
cell phone and virtual systems offer mobility. A virtual phone
system allows you to setup your phone service and toll free
number at the same time, on the same bill. It simply uses your
computer and internet connection to place and receive calls.
Virtual systems, such as
Ring Central, allow you to setup
multiple extensions, toll free
numbers, receive voicemails in
your email inbox, and forward calls in a variety of ways.
Virtual phone systems also incorporate a nice fax feature. This
system will leave room for rapid expansion (many times an online
business starts off with one person, the business expands
rapidly, and more manpower is needed).

4. Every business must have a physical address. Many people use
their home address but we recommend that you use a post office
box or UPS box service. This allows you to separate your
business mail from your personal mail. A post office box usually
runs about $100 for an entire year and a UPS box will be about
$200. The advantage of the UPS box is that it gives you an
actual physical street address where UPS, FedEx, or DHL packages
can be received. PO Boxes cannot receive mail from UPS, FedEx or
DHL.
5. You must have a detailed plan for your business.
You may be giddy to jump right in to the heart of the business
and start selling immediately but remember the old saying, “if
you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” In Chapter 7 we guide you

produce the income and results you desire.
6. You must
possess the motivation and desire to succeed. This attribute is
shared among every successful person. Always remember that what
you put in to something is what comes back out. If you truly
have the desire to succeed and produce income online this book
