Defining Business Systems
Every highly successful business relies on the members to properly manage their time and complete actions that take the business in the direction of completing goals. This is where your company mission, vision, values and goals come in to play. When developing these you should take some time and think them through thoroughly.
The
mission of your company is like a clock. It defines what your
business does with the time you have available. It clearly
defines what actions you take to provide services or products to
people or other companies. To develop your mission statement
pick out three verbs that clearly defines what your business
does for others. Create a one to two sentence mission statement
around these three verbs. Your mission is very important! It
helps you stay on task and make sure you are only completing
activities that take you in the direction you want to go. The
mission of your company should be clearly stated on your
website.
The
vision of your company is the picture, or end result, of where
you want to take your company. A company vision is like a
compass. It points you in the direction you want to go. When
writing your vision write it in present tense like you have
already achieved the success you desire. Your vision should be
one or more pages long and clearly and vividly describe where
you see your company at a specified time in the future. Your
vision statement should not be publicly available. It should be
read and followed only by the people within your organization.
After you have finished compiling your vision statement it
is important to read back through it and highlight points that
allow you to establish goals. When you envision your company at
a time in the future you realize that many action steps will
have to be completed to reach this vision. These action steps
are your goals and you need to write down all of your goals and
time frames that each should be completed. Set your goals so
they are realistically attainable by a certain date. If you set
your goals to high then it can lead to discouragement.
The core values of your company should revolve around customer
service and providing the fastest, most phenomenal service in
the industry. Core values describe how you treat and interact
with others.
Your mission should stay relatively the same
throughout the duration of your business. The company vision
should be updated every six months or so as to keep current.
When you update your vision statement you should also update
your goals. Keeping a notebook of this information builds
personal responsibility so you can stay on path (vision) and use
your time wisely to take you in the direction you want to go
(mission).
THE ORGANIZATION MODEL
There are three main sectors of your business and virtually
every other business in existence. These three sectors include
the executive, operations and administrative. You can view the
model below to understand the organization model of every
successful business.
The role of the organizational
model is to establish roles that each person within your
enterprise will complete on a regular basis. You may fill all of
the roles at first but find the means to expand later on.

The executive sector is comprised
of you and any of your management staff. The executives of the
company control the operations and administrative side of your
business.
Executives also appoint managers to the
operations and administrative branches. The primary role of the
executives is to make decisions.
The operations sector of
your business has roles of customer service, shipping, stocking
or anything that pertains to the actual responsibilities
involved in day to day operations.
The administrative
sector of your business is involved with accounting and document
management. Proper accounting is essential to track the
performance of your business and to meet goals that you set.
It is important to line out the roles of your business and
who will be filling the positions. If you are covering them all
you will need to allocate your time appropriately so you do not
fall behind in any aspect of your business. If you are running
your entire business on your own your day will be comprised of
primarily the operations sector. The administrative sector comes
second and you should complete those tasks in your free time.
