Putting it All Together
Now that you know how to market
your business effectively and have built your entire website it
is important to make sure everything is working properly. The
first step we will take is to setup email accounts. We will be
setting up the following email accounts:
support@myDomainName.com
orders@myDomainName.com
affiliates@myDomainName.com
To setup these domain names
you need to have purchased your store already and have a live
store up on the internet.
You need to first browse to
my.volusion.com and click on mailboxes. You then setup the three
email addresses above. Make sure to remember your passwords.
Once these email addresses are setup and ready to go you
will need to go to the following section of your administration
panel. You will go to Settings >> Company and then change the
email settings to the following.

Make sure to press save changes
at the bottom of the page.
You need to make sure your
payment settings are setup and tied in to the payment gateway
that you setup in Chapter 13.
Now we will create a
product that is priced at $1. You will then browse to the
frontend of your website and place an order for that product and
make sure everything goes through without error.
If it
does then you are set! You need to check the customer email
address that you entered while checking out and make sure the
thank you email looks good. You will also need to check
orders@myDomainName.com to make sure that you received your copy
of the order.
Now it is time to receive the funds for
this order. You need to browse to your administration panel and
then click Orders >> Orders. This will pull up a list of your
orders. You will see the order status as “New”. Click the order
id number and the next screen will pull up the order details. On
the right hand side you have the options to press “Complete
Order and Send Emails”. This will actually charge the customers
card and start a batch for you to receive the funds to your
checking account.
In 2-3 business days you should receive
the funds. You need to verify that you have received the funds.
Also make sure all of the email go where the need to go.
When you receive the copy of the customer order to
support@myDomainName.com you will then forward the order to the
appropriate supplier. The supplier will then ship the product.
It is a pretty simple process but you need to stay organized!
You also need to go back to the orders and enter the tracking
numbers when the suppliers send you a tracking confirmation.
WEBSITE FUNCTIONALITY AND PROOFREADING
It is now time to browse through the vast majority of your
pages and look for spelling errors, broken images and broken
links. You need to make sure that the META data is setup on all
of your product and category pages as well. Common problems are
broken or missing images and broken links.
You need to
make sure that your phone lines, fax and voicemails are working
appropriately. It is always a great idea to have a script ready
for incoming calls as well so you may want to practice a few
orders with a friend. Have the friend call you and act like a
customer. Go through the whole process of taking an order,
providing a tracking number or completing a quote.
You
need to also familiarize yourself with the Phone Order Page in
Volusion and make sure you know how to use it.
Once
everything looks good and your site is working properly you need
to go turn your PPC campaigns on and sit back and get ready for
some sales!
