Picking a Domain Name
At this time you have decided on a niche market
and need to find a good domain name for your site. You probably
have been thinking about a domain name for your business
already! This is an extremely important decision and will
directly influence the success of your business.
What is
a domain name?
Strings of letters and numbers (separated
by periods) that are used to name organizations and computers
and addresses on the internet. i.e. www.Google.com
Where
can they be searched and bought?
We use
GoDaddy for all
of our domain purchases because they offer awesome support 24
hours per day and their prices are low. For less than $10 you
can buy a domain name, your own internet address, for an entire
year. Notice it says “Start Domain Name search”. That is where
you search for your .com. Visit GoDaddy!
Importance of the name!
You want to find the shortest domain name possible and at
the same time it should describe your business. It is important
to include the most popular keyword that describes your
business. For example, Mary Jones is creating a drop shipping
business selling sneakers. Well shoes.com and sneakers.com are
already taken. No worries! She searches GoDaddy and finds
SneakerWorld.com or ShoeSource.com is available. Both of those
are great choices. She would want to refrain from names like
MarysShoeWarehouse.com because it is simply too long and
customers will forget the name.
The reason you want your
most important keyword in your domain name is because it helps
with search engine optimization and also your ad placements.
When coming up with the name simply think to yourself, if
you were search Google for “your niche product” what would you
type in? Now simply use the most popular keyword and include it
in your domain name.
Richard is having trouble coming up
with a domain name for his golf store. He thinks golf clubs will
be his hottest selling product. He should search for names like:
golfclubs.com, golf-clubs.com, golfmagic.com, golfsource.com,
etc. There are literally hundreds of combinations.
Always try to keep the domain name of your website to two words
or less. This will help current and potential customers remember
your web address much easier.
Choose ONLY .COM names!
When you are setting up an e-commerce store it is a great
idea to only use .com names. The reason is that people can
relate to .com because they hear it every single day. Now, if
you come up with a stellar one word domain name and the .com is
taken but the .net is not, then you may consider purchasing the
.net.
WARNING: When buying a domain name ALWAYS purchase
the .com, .net, .org, and .mobi. The last thing you want to have
happen is someone purchases the same name as you and outranks
you with a .net.
Making the Purchase
Buying a
domain name is very easy and takes only a few minutes. Simply
click the following link: GoDaddy and search for your domain
name. Find one you like and follow the instructions to purchase.
The purchase process only takes a few minutes.
GoDaddy
will throw tons of offers at you like hosting and all sorts of
additional add-ons. Skip these. When purchasing you need to
select the private registration options so your personal
information is not publicly available. It is a good idea to
purchase the business registration as well. If you plan on using
only the .com for your business you can skip the business
registration for the .net, .org and .mobi. Choose private
registration on all domains. It is also a wise idea to purchase
your domain name for more than one year. There is rumor that
purchasing a domain name for 3+ years helps your ranking within
search engines.

found an awesome domain name! In review, pick a short domain
name that describes your business in two words or less. Search
and purchase your domain from GoDaddy. Choose private
registration on all domains and business registration on the
domain you will be utilizing for you drop shipping website. You
now officially have your own internet street name and are well
on your way to driving traffic to it!
Make sure to write
down your GoDaddy
username, password and call in PIN number.
